OUTLOOK

It might be a long season for Katella. With only four starters returning from a club that finished fifth in league, the outlook doesn’t appear bright. There appear to be too many variables for them to compete successfully, and just earning a playoff berth would be a huge victory. Viramontes, a receiver last year, will try his fortunes at running the triple-option offense. Goetz and DeLeon might be two of the bright spots, but both must rely on a very inexperienced offensive line. It might take some time for the offense to come around. Schirmacher and Switzer are standouts on defense. But Katella must depend on strong defensive outings each game to win. “We’re going to have to play great defense,” Anderson said. “Our offense is just going to have to improve each week.”
