Share

Amateur radio equipment that county officials would use in the event of an emergency will be on display Monday at the Old County Courthouse in Santa Ana.

The radio hardware will include hand-held radios and a high-tech communications van with a radio tower on its roof.

The goal of the display is to raise public awareness of amateur radio technology and how it would be used to help the county during disasters.

Dozens of county employees are part of the Orange County Telecommunications Network and would use their radios to help coordinate relief efforts during an emergency. Many of the radios to be displayed are owned by members of the network.

The event is sponsored by the County of Orange Health Care Agency Emergency Medical Services. The equipment will be displayed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the courthouse, at 211 W. Santa Ana Blvd.
