Tommy Prenovost threw for 110 yards and kicked a 22-yard field goal as Brea-Olinda defeated Buena Park, 17-7, in a penalty-filled nonleague opener Friday at Spaulding Stadium.

Both teams combined for 17 penalties for 110 yards.

Wildcats’ running back Jerome Owens scored the first touchdown from 12 yards. Prenovost then opened the third quarter with a 32-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jacob Freeze on the Wildcats’ first series of the second half.

The Brea-Olinda defense held the Coyotes to only five yards in the first half and forced five turnovers.

The lone Coyote touchdown came with 4 minutes 38 seconds remaining in the game as Buena Park’s Aaron Hudson found wide receiver Robert Leventhal in the end zone for a five-yard touchdown.

“There were lots of jitters tonight, but the first game is always like that,” Brea-Olinda Coach Jon Looney said. “Tonight we won, but we won ugly.”

“The opening game is sloppy by nature,” Buena Park Coach Bob Rau said. “I’m concerned with our inability to move the ball on offense, but our defense played pretty hard, considering they were on the field most of the game.”
