COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Mt. San Antonio, Fullerton End Game in Tie, 39-39

Mt. San Antonio scored a touchdown with no time left on the clock, then missed the conversion kick as it tied Fullerton College, 39-39, in a nonconference game Saturday night at Cal State Fullerton.

Tony Campbell caught a 22-yard pass from Cody Smith, but Rodrigo Vera’s point-after attempt was wide left.

Marc O’Brien scored on a two-yard bootleg run with 44 seconds left and Tony Draft caught a two-point conversion pass from O’Brien, giving Fullerton a 39-33 lead.

Fullerton’s ensuing squib kick went out of bounds, giving Mt. San Antonio, the preseason top-ranked community college team in the nation, the ball on its 35.

O’Brien completed 17 of 22 passes for 275 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions in his first college start.

Freshman Alex Molnar returned a kick 93 yards for a Fullerton touchdown in the first half.

In other nonconference games:

Pasadena 27, Orange Coast 25--Christian Emerson kicked a 27-yard field goal with two seconds remaining to give Pasadena the victory and spoil an Orange Coast comeback.

After trailing, 24-0, at halftime the Pirates scored 25 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter, capped by a nine-yard run by Jeff Clayton with 3:08 remaining.

But a 26-yard pass from Joe Phears to Z Hodges on third and six with less than 30 seconds remaining set up the game-winning field goal.

El Camino 55, Rancho Santiago 28--Steve Sarkisian threw for 434 yards and five touchdowns for El Camino, which passed for 452 yards, the most allowed by a Rancho Santiago team. Leandrew Childs had five catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns and he scored another touchdown on a 12-yard run for El Camino.

Ernest Wilson led Rancho Santiago with two touchdowns, one on a 65-yard run and the other on a 95-yard kickoff return.

In the San Diego Mesa water polo tournament:

Grossmont 17, Orange Coast 8--Nick Wagner had four goals, Kevin Bobzien and David Kasa each had two goals and Kaj Sturdivant recorded six saves for visiting Orange Coast (2-1).

Bobzien scored six goals and Kasa added five in the Pirates’ 18-4 victory over Palomar and Shad Wicker had seven goals and Kasa had added five to lead Orange Coast to a 20-5 victory over San Diego Mesa.
