A Little Light in the Darkness

LimeLight is a new safety bicycle helmet that features a blinking light emitting a diode strip so riders can be easily seen at night from a distance of up to 1,000 feet.

A six-inch yellow strip with a three-volt battery (which will last about a year) and four red blinkers attach to the back of the helmet. The strip is detachable so the user can reposition it if desired. The white shell of the helmet has vents on top for cooling.

Three sizes are available and each comes with a package of sizing pads to ensure a good fit. There is a toddler size without a light strip ($29.95); youth and adult with the blinking strip ($39.95). You may also purchase the light strip separately for $9.95 if you want to put it on a helmet you have. To order LimeLight, call Safe Moves in Calabasas at (800) 7-WEAR-IT.

There Is an Artist in You

You say you can’t draw? Not even a convincing stick figure? There’s a new instruction kit that aims to teach you to draw portraits in a day.

Walter Foster Publishing, which has been turning out instructional art books for about 70 years, has created the Draw Today kit that promises to teach you to create lifelike charcoal portraits within 24 hours, even if you have little or no drawing skill. If the instruction doesn’t work for you, the company will refund your money.

Steven Golden, who spent five years developing and testing Draw Today, says he created a user-friendly kit that teaches you how to draw what you see and place what you “really see” in its proper location. There is a help line--(800) 552-DRAW.

The Introductory Set ($24.95) has an instructional book with 18 famous portraits to draw, erasers, blending tools, grid ruler, drawing paper and a board. A 5-by-7-inch transparent grid helps users divide complex shapes into smaller parts.

The Complete Set With Video ($59.95) includes everything the Introductory Set has, plus 48 portraits to draw, more drawing, blending and erasing tools and a mat for framing. The one-hour video supplements the instruction book.

Draw Today is carried by Michael’s craft stores and Aaron Brothers. Or you can order it by calling (800) 426-0099.
