Share

Ventura County’s first African-American Expo, featuring a variety of vendors, artists, food and musical entertainment, will take place Saturday in Oxnard.

Organizers say the event will be modeled after the Los Angeles Black Expo. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet with representatives of community organizations, financial consultants, travel agents and others in business. Free services will include voter-registration and blood-pressure testing.

“It’s so we can showcase the services and merchandise available to not only the African American community, but the larger community as well,” said organizer Delores Rawlins. “It will also give local African American vendors a chance to meet each other.”

Rawlins said hundreds of people from Santa Barbara to San Diego are expected to attend.

A gospel group, a blues band, a cappella singers and a magician will perform. A fashion show also is scheduled.

The expo will take place at the Oxnard Community Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and free for children under 12. For more information, call 985-0840 or 497-0866.
