Calling all moon lovers, calling all moon lovers: Round celestial object insight today at the fifth annual Chinese Moon Festival.

From 7 to 9 p.m., you can join a full-moon viewing party at Broadway and Cesar E. Chavez Avenue to cap a day of carnival activities and multicultural stage performances ranging from dance to martial arts to excerpts from Chinese operas.

Storyteller Kathleen Zundell is scheduled to share the legend behind the festival and other moon stories from Native American, Polynesian and Siberian cultures.

In the Chinese tradition, the festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month (on Tuesday) and marks the end of the summer harvest. Family and friends usually gather to eat “moon cakes” filled with ground lotus, sesame seeds and sometimes a golden egg yoke to signify the moon.

Free tea and cakes will be available for moon viewers, said Sue Yee, events coordinator for the Chinese Chamber of Commerce.

Fifth annual Chinese Moon Festival, Broadway and Cesar E. Chavez Avenue; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday; free; (213) 617-0396.
