SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Wide receiver Carlos French caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Clayton DiPrima with 2 minutes 53 seconds to play Saturday and Eric McGee added the go-ahead conversion kick as Hanford High rallied to edge Highland, 22-21, in a nonleague game at Quartz Hill High.

Thanks to the play of quarterback Jason Carr, Highland (0-2) appeared to have matters in hand in the second quarter. Trailing, 7-0, Carr threw touchdown passes of 15 yards to Norris Theus and eight yards to Dante Lee, and ran two yards for a touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 21-7 lead.

However, the Hanford defense took over at that point to get the visitors back into the game.

Ryan Camara, who had opened the scoring with a 44-yard touchdown reception from DiPrima, tackled Carr in the end zone to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 21-9 at halftime.

Mike Avilia intercepted a Carr pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown in the third period, narrowing the margin to 21-15.

Carr completed 14 of 32 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns and threw two interceptions.
