George Burns went home from the hospital Thursday to continue recuperation 11 days after surgery to drain fluid from his brain, a spokesman said.

“He was released this morning in good condition following surgery last week,” said Ron Wise, spokesman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The 98-year-old, cigar-chomping comic was reported in good spirits.

Burns’ longtime friend and business manager, Irving Fein, said earlier that the entertainer would recuperate at home for a week or two, “then he’ll be playing bridge at Hillcrest (Country Club) as he does every day.”

Burns underwent about two hours of surgery after being admitted to the hospital Sept. 12. The operation relieved pressure from fluid that had built up after Burns fell in his bathtub and hit his head at his Beverly Hills home July 13, suffering a cut that required two stitches. He was hospitalized then for observation, Fein said.
