FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL : Romans Block Punts to Tame the Mules
Two blocked punts in the last 10 minutes resulted in a safety and a touchdown for Los Angeles and a 30-21 win over Wilson in a nonconference game.
After Wesley Watson blocked a punt, Buster Bradley recovered the loose ball for the Mules but was tackled by Los Angeles linebacker Dipo Akinmurela in the end zone for a safety. On its next possession, Wilson tried another punt, which was blocked by Randy Simmons and recovered by Travon Kitchen for a touchdown.
Wilson held a 21-6 lead after a touchdown by Bradley on a 27-yard pass from Eddie Gonzalez.
Los Angeles scored 24 unanswered points beginning with Ray Adams’ 27-yard touchdown reception from Patrick Regan. Watson then scored on a three-yard run in the third quarter to bring the Romans to 21-20.
Gonzalez completed 15 of 28 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Regan was nine-of-18 for 165 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Receiver Luis Sanchez had seven catches for 100 yards and a touchdown for Wilson.
