FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
Verbum Dei 9, Belmont 2--Quarterback Corey Redeaux scored on a three-yard run in the second quarter in a nonleague game at Belmont.
The undefeated Eagles shut down the Sentinels’ air game. Jason Steen, who tackled Belmont’s Ismael Lopez for a safety, led the Eagles’ defense, which forced four turnovers. Belmont, which was awarded a safety when a snap sailed through the end zone on a Verbum Dei punt attempt, did not help its cause with 10 penalties for 90 yards.
Next week: Verbum Dei at Compton; Verdugo Hills at Belmont.
