The Miami Dolphins said halfback Terry Kirby would be sidelined for the season because of a knee injury and re-signed running back Aaron Craver, who was cut in the preseason. Kirby, who was placed on injured reserve, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Sunday’s 38-35 loss at Minnesota.

Quarterback Erik Kramer will start for the Chicago Bears against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday if his right shoulder has healed, Bear Coach Dave Wannstedt said. Wannstedt praised backup quarterback Steve Walsh’s performance in Sunday’s 19-7 victory over the New York Jets. Walsh completed was 14 of for 24 passes for 143 yards. . . Redskin Coach Norv Turner will announce today whether John Friesz or rookie Heath Shuler will start Sunday for Washington (1-3) against the Dallas (2-1) on Sunday. Friesz was 17 for 29 for 230 yards and a touchdown in a 27-20 loss to the Falcons on Sunday, but threw three interceptions and fumbled once. Shuler was 10 for 16 for 93 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown drive and one interception on a desperation pass in the final seconds. . . . The Arizona Cardinals signed running back Barry Word to a one-year contract.
