Kirby Dar Dar zig-zagged through the Big East’s top defense on a 34-yard touchdown run with 5:42 to play Saturday, propelling Syracuse to a 28-20 Big East victory over No. 14 Virginia Tech.

It was the fourth consecutive victory for the Orangemen (4-1, 2-0), who overcame a 20-14 deficit in the fourth quarter.

Dar Dar’s third touchdown of the day was just the second second-half touchdown the Hokies (4-1, 2-1) had allowed this season but it was enough to end their seven-game winning streak.

Dar Dar’s backup, Malcolm Thomas, had a 42-yard scoring run with 2:33 to play for the final margin. Thomas finished with a career-high 145 yards in 15 carries and Dar Dar had 108 yards in 21 rushes.

It was the first time two Syracuse backs rushed for 100 yards in the same game since 1980, when Glenn Moore and Ken Mandeville did it against West Virginia.

Virginia Tech entered the game allowing just 81.5 yards rushing per game and an average of 8.5 points.

Ryan Williams kicked a career-best four field goals to keep the Hokies in the game as Virginia Tech struggled offensively without its leading rusher, Dwayne Thomas, who sat out with an ankle injury.

Penalties hurt the Hokies, who were called for 12 infractions for 94 yards.
