COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Orange Bowl Agrees to Move Game

The Orange Bowl Committee, eager to secure a prominent role in the new bowl alliance, agreed Tuesday to move its game to Joe Robbie Stadium after the 1996 regular season.

At least two conference commissioners in the alliance said they wanted the game moved to eliminate the possibility of a home-field advantage for the Miami Hurricanes in a national championship game at the Orange Bowl. Other supporters of the move said Joe Robbie Stadium, with its sky boxes and club seats, is a more appropriate setting for such a major event.

The alliance indicated that unless the Orange Bowl moved, the game would be excluded from the planned rotation of top-tier postseason games in favor of the Gator Bowl.

Nebraska Coach Tom Osborne said he might not know until Saturday if Brook Berringer can play against No. 16 Kansas State. Berringer suffered a partially collapsed left lung in Nebraska’s 42-32 victory over Wyoming on Oct. 1. The same lung partially collapsed again last week in a 32-3 victory over Oklahoma State and doctors are monitoring his recovery.

No. 3 quarterback Matt Turman will play Saturday if Berringer can’t. Backing up Turman is second-team wingback Clester Johnson.
