The Seahawks had a one-point lead with 6 minutes 1 second left in the game, but then host Saddleback marched up field for the winning score and a 14-7 victory in a Golden West League opener Friday at the Santa Ana Bowl. Ocean View has lost 35 in a row.

Danny Verino rushed for 162 yards in 23 carries and scored two touchdowns and a two-point conversion for the Roadrunners. Verino broke a 46-yard run midway through the second quarter, then had runs of 23 and 25 yards on the final Roadrunner drive, setting up his one-yard scoring run with 1:17 remaining.

Ocean View had its best four-quarter effort of the season, perhaps in part because of a balanced rushing attack. Calvin Silva (30 yards in 10 carries) had been carrying the bulk of the rushing load for the Seahawks, but got help Friday from Jason Hoffman, who ran for 44 yards and scored the Seahawk touchdown on a one-yard fourth-quarter run.

The Seahawks had a chance to open the scoring in the second quarter, as quarterback Ted Norman apparently gave Ocean View a first down at the Saddleback 20. However, the play was called back because of a procedure penalty.
