SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

It’s the game that East Los Angeles has been waiting for.

Not the annual Garfield-Roosevelt grudge match, but next week’s showdown between Franklin and Wilson that will likely determine the Northern Conference champion.

Franklin fired the first shot with a 41-7 drubbing of Verdugo Hills Friday afternoon and the Mules retaliated with a 55-14 dismantling of Eagle Rock Friday night at Wilson.

The message is clear: Neither team is going to give an inch.

“I thought this game would be the acid test even though I am surprised at the score,” Wilson coach Eddie Martinez said.
