Mighty Duck President Tony Tavares doesn’t expect the NHL lockout to result in layoffs of team employees “for the foreseeable future” but said workers might eventually be given temporary assignments--perhaps even at Disneyland. “Some people might be cross-utilized,” said Tavares, whose team is owned by the Walt Disney Co.

Scott Hoch rode six consecutive birdies into a two-shot lead Thursday after two rounds of the Las Vegas Invitational. Hoch shot an eight-under-par 63 for a two-day total of 129. . . . Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez, who had her quarterfinal moved up a day in the Brighton International tournament in England to fly to her coach’s wedding today in Switzerland and back, was upset, 6-1, 6-3, by Latvia’s Larisa Neiland.
