Quayle, Matsui to Speak at Meeting

The global information revolution’s effect on the future of business, government and everyday life will be the focus of a conference in Thousand Oaks on Thursday, featuring former Vice President Dan Quayle.

Quayle is slated to speak about freedom in the 21st Century. Rep. Robert T. Matsui (D-Sacramento) is scheduled to deliver a keynote address about trade in the 21st Century during the daylong conference at the new Civic Arts Plaza.

An executive at the World Affairs Council of Ventura County said she hopes the “Passport to Tomorrow” conference will attract an international audience and bring economic benefits to the county.

“We’re trying to expose people who are responsible for foreign trade all over the world to businesses that are located in Ventura County,” said Cynthia Cooke, executive director of the council, which is sponsoring the conference.

Thursday morning sessions will focus on “doing business in the global information age.” Afternoon panel discussions will explore electronic privacy and “making government work in the global information age.”

The World Affairs Council is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 1990 to promote awareness and discussion of national and international policy issues.

Tickets for the conference, which is open to the public, range from $95 to $175, with an extra charge for the Quayle and Matsui speeches.

Tickets to the “World Citizen Gala,” including the Quayle and Matsui speeches and a reception afterward, cost between $25 and $50. Discount tickets are available for students. Information: the Arts Plaza box office or Ticketmaster.
