COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Defeats Aztecs, 1-0

Adel Afkarian scored in overtime to give UC Irvine a 1-0 victory over San Diego State in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer game Friday at San Diego.

Afkarian’s goal came near the end of the 30 minute overtime. Manny Hernandez and Jon Szczuka assisted on the goal. Goalkeeper Matt Goldman had four saves for the Anteaters (11-4, 4-2). San Diego State is 8-7, 2-4.

In another Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game:

UCLA 2, Cal State Fullerton 1--Senior Eddie Soto scored on a penalty kick in the 85th minute for visiting Cal State Fullerton (8-6-1, 3-3). Justin Selander and Eddie Lewis each scored goals for UCLA (13-1, 5-1).

In California Coastal Conference men’s soccer:

Pacific Christian 6, Cal Maritime 0--Ryan Bean scored the first five goals of the game, giving him 40 for the season. Bean, a sophomore from Kennedy High, tied his single-game school record he set earlier this season.

Andrew Mehr scored the other goal for the Royals (11-2-2, 4-0), who won the conference title.

In nonconference women’s soccer:

UCLA 1, CS Fullerton 0--Michelle Lieberman scored in the first half for the host Bruins.
