NORTHRIDGE : Ceremony to Mark Firefighters’ Return
When the earthquake rolled through on Jan. 17, the Los Angeles city firefighters of Station 70 in Northridge had to take one engine out a back door because the front door was so damaged.
When they returned from the scene of 16 deaths at the Northridge Meadows Apartments complex--where they were the first company to arrive--it became apparent that more than the door was damaged. And the firefighters were booted out.
After nine months of working out of neighboring stations, the crews of Task Force 70 are back home, and the Los Angeles Fire Department will celebrate with a rededication ceremony Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the station, 9861 Reseda Blvd.
A host of public figures are scheduled to be on hand, including Gov. Pete Wilson, Mayor Richard Riordan and Fire Chief Donald Manning.
Organizers invite the public to welcome the firefighters back.
