Kidnapers Return Their Monster Stash in Azusa

Share

A 35-foot Frankenstein balloon kidnaped from an Azusa rooftop Sunday morning was found in a local McDonald’s parking lot Wednesday with a note explaining why the kidnapers returned him.

“Roses are red, vampires’ teeth are too,” began the note. “We’d love to have Franky for Halloween but so would the kids who loved to be scared. So we’re giving him back . . . BOO!”

“Franky,” as he has been dubbed by the city’s recreation staff, was stolen from the top of the Security Pacific building in the 300 block of North Citrus Avenue, Azusa Police Sgt. Patrick Doyle said. Franky’s job was to direct residents to Azusa’s Haunted House, a fund-raiser for the recreation department, Doyle said.

On Tuesday, the city offered a $250 reward for the return of the $6,000 inflatable monster. Doyle said nobody had requested the reward.
