PREP EXTRA: SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : Streak Ends at 36 as Ocean View Beats Santa Ana

Ocean View has a new streak . . . and this one it wants to protect.

The Seahawks ended the state’s longest losing streak at 36 games with a 20-12 Golden West League victory over Santa Ana Friday night at Huntington Beach High.

“People forget that this team was only 0-7 before tonight,” Seahawk Coach John Donnelly said. “They felt the pressure of being 0-36, though.”

Ocean View rode the back of Calvin Silva, who ran for three touchdowns en route to 107 rushing yards in 16 carries.

“I have to give all the credit to my line,” said Silva, the Seahawks’ first 100-yard rusher this season.

Ocean View (1-7, 1-2 in league) started the scoring, taking its second drive 37 yards in four plays, capped by Silva’s one-yard run with 6 minutes 32 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Santa Ana (1-7, 1-2) battled back to take the lead by halftime, as Carlos Rodriguez ran one yard for the Saints’ first score. Carlos Esparza then followed with an 89-yard interception return for a touchdown before the half.

Ocean View dominated the third quarter, notching four first downs after earning just two in the entire first half. Silva ran three yards for his second touchdown to put the Seahawks ahead, 14-12.

The Saints made it interesting on their last drive, as they drove to the Seahawk three-yard line before a Jared DeLachica interception sealed Ocean View’s victory.

“This is the best feeling I have ever had in my entire life,” linebacker Mike Ketcham said after his two quarterback sacks led the Seahawk defense.
