Michigan State coach George Perles got a restraining order Tuesday against a former player who has raised allegations of possible NCAA rules violations. Roosevelt Wagner, the disgruntled ex-player, was quoted in the Detroit News saying he once plotted to kill Perles. “I’m concerned about one person--not me, my wife, Sally,” Perles told the Lansing State Journal.

Purdue quarterback Rick Trefzger will have reconstructive surgery on his left knee and will be sidelined the rest of the season, Coach Jim Colletto said. Trefzger tore a ligament in Saturday’s 21-21 tie with Iowa. Backup Billy Dicken will start.

Colorado State’s top two running backs are doubtful for Saturday night’s Western Athletic Conference game with Wyoming. E.J. Watson, the Rams’ leading rusher with 585 yards, is hobbled by strained muscles in his lower leg. And Leonice Brown, who has rushed for 495 yards, is suffering from a pulled hamstring. Van Ward, who has six touchdowns and 136 yards on 32 carries, probably will start; Renard Carn and Chris Myers also should see plenty of action.

Roger Graham, the University of New Haven running back who won the 1993 Harlon Hill Trophy, is among 23 players selected as candidates for the 1994 Division II college football player of the year award. There is one sophomore among the 23, tailback Jarrett Anderson of Northeast Missouri State, and three juniors, West Texas A&M; quarterback Grady Benton, North Alabama linebacker Ronald McKinnon and quarterback Aaron Sparrow of Norfolk State.
