PREP EXTRA: SATURDAY FOOTBALL PULLOUT : McGraw Scores 6 Touchdowns in Laguna Hills’ Victory

Brendan McGraw rushed 17 times for 265 yards and six touchdowns in one half of work to propel Laguna Hills past visiting Laguna Beach, 48-14, in a Pacific Coast League game Friday night.

McGraw, who did not play in the second half, averaged 15.6 yards per carry.

It was not until the Hawks’ fourth possession that they ran a play other than a McGraw run. In fact, Laguna Hills gave the ball to McGraw, the county’s second leading rusher entering the game, on all but two plays in the first half.

The strategy proved effective, as the Hawks scored on all but their final possession of the first half, all on McGraw runs. His longest was his second, covering 90 yards.

At one point McGraw, who now has 1,947 yards and a county-high 33 touchdowns, scored on three consecutive carries as the Hawks sprinted to a 41-0 halftime lead.

Laguna Beach was not able to gain any momentum until the game was out of hand. Quarterback Nate Pivaroff, constantly pressured, was intercepted three times, including one that was returned by Adam Heller for a 16-yard touchdown on his first attempt of the second half.

Pivaroff did rush for a one-yard score in the third quarter, but by then the Artists trailed, 48-0.
