THOUSAND OAKS : 4 Council Candidates Report Contributions

Share

Scrambling to finance last-minute advertising, four candidates for the Thousand Oaks City Council have reported fresh loans or contributions to their campaigns.

Dentist Greg Cole, who earlier lent his campaign $17,000, poured another $5,000 of his own money into the heated race this week. Cole is running two cable television ads, repeated dozens of times each day on popular shows. He has also sent out letters and pamphlets to targeted groups of voters.

With the latest infusion of cash, Cole’s treasury is up to more than $37,000--tops among the 16 candidates running for the Thousand Oaks council.

Rival candidate Marshall Dixon, a retired businessman, loaned his campaign $2,500 this week. Dixon plans to use the money for a television commercial featuring his 7-year-old granddaughter, Danielle.

In an unusual twist, Dixon’s ad never shows the candidate’s face. Instead, the commercial features a childish voice telling voters to consider Dixon because of his concern for youth.

Other campaign filings this week showed that incumbent Elois Zeanah’s reelection committee donated valuable services to two other candidates, retired filmmaker M. Ali Issari and city operations manager David Hare.

Hare reported receiving more than $5,880 worth of campaign signs from Zeanah’s committee. Issari received $2,300 for printing a brochure.
