COUNTYWIDE : VISTA to Change Some Routes, Service

Share

Four months after launching a new countywide bus program, the Ventura County Transportation Commission has agreed to tinker with the service to better meet the needs of commuters.

Beginning Nov. 14, service on the Ventura Intercity Service Transit Authority, or VISTA, will stop at Oak Park High School four times a day.

The Oak Park service will be added to the East line, which also stops in Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Moorpark.

Buses on the Central line, which travels between Oxnard and Camarillo, will begin stopping at Oxnard Airport.

And a stop at Lewis Road in Camarillo will be added to the VISTA-101 route, which travels from Ventura to Thousand Oaks along the Ventura Freeway.

The commission on Friday also agreed to reduce midday service on the Central and East routes because of low ridership.

Average daily ridership on the six VISTA routes has more than doubled since the program’s inception. In July, an average of 413 riders boarded VISTA buses each day. In October, the average daily ridership reached 852.
