A Lake Forest man posing as a radio personality of a Los Angeles station has been jailed on suspicion of offering teen-age girls concert tickets in exchange for sexual favors, authorities said Saturday.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department investigators said David Eugene Zebe, 27, approached more than 30 girls, ages 14 to 17, with the ticket offer and kissed or fondled at least three of them.

“He drives up to these girls and says, ‘Hey, what would you do to win tickets?’ ” said Mark Simon, an investigator with the sheriff’s sex crimes unit. “He tells them he works for KROQ and he shows them a fake ID card. Some of the girls trusted him and actually believed he was from KROQ.”

Deputies arrested Zebe on Thursday afternoon after a 15-year-old Aliso Viejo High School student told officers that she was scheduled to meet Zebe that day. The girl had been warned by a friend from Rancho Santiago High School who had heard about a suspicious-appearing man going around her school offering girls concert tickets, Simon said.

“He had two tickets for Friday night’s Green Day concert on him when we arrested him,” Simon said. “The first thing he said was, ‘I need counseling.’ At that point, we knew he’d probably be talkative.”

Simon said that five or six girls have come forward, and that investigators are looking for other possible victims. Employees at the radio station said having rambunctious fans pose as their employees has happened before. But after receiving telephone calls from suspicious teens and their parents, the radio station’s management decided to file a complaint with police.

“I’m super glad they caught him,” said John Frost, creative director and disc jockey at KROQ-FM. “I’m glad because it’s kind of scary. We have very loyal listeners in many ways. In some ways that’s good and in some ways, people get obsessed.”

Simon said that Zebe told officers he had been posing as an employee from the station for the past month and also admitted making obscene phone calls.

Zebe was being held Saturday at Orange County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Laguna Niguel Municipal Court on charges of attempted child molestation.
