Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Toddler Crushed in Car Accident
A toddler was crushed Thursday when she was thrown from her mother’s car and it overturned on her, authorities said.
Rachel Borunda, 21 months old, was killed on 110 Street East at Avenue Q just after noon when her mother’s car drifted to the shoulder of the road and overturned, said Officer Richard Perez of the California Highway Patrol.
Both Rachel and her mother were thrown from the car but it rolled over the child, Perez said. She was declared dead at Desert Palms Hospital in Palmdale.
The mother, who was not injured, told investigators that the child was strapped in by a seat belt but was not in a car seat, Perez said. The investigation will continue, he said.
