Impostor Assaults 2 Girls

A man pretending to be a county employee whose job is interviewing child assault victims gained entry to two homes by showing a badge and sexually assaulted two young girls, police said Friday.

In both cases, which occurred Nov. 9 in Pacoima, the man showed parents a star-shaped badge and photo identification. The girls involved were 6 and 8 years old, said Sgt. Charles Evans of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division.

Evans said police have no suspect and do not know why the man approached the homes of these particular girls.

Authorities stressed that no officers of the LAPD or county child protection agencies perform home physical examinations to determine sexual abuse. Such exams are performed by medical personnel in a hospital or clinic, police said.

The molester was described as white, 5-foot-10 and weighing 150 to 230 pounds with brown hair and green eyes. Witnesses said he drove a late-model white Jeep or Suzuki.

The LAPD and the Department of Children Services are investigating.
