Four Inducted Into CSUN’s Athletic Hall of Fame

Two former athletes and two former coaches were inducted into the Cal State Northridge Athletic Hall of Fame at the school’s 13th awards banquet Friday night at the Warner Center Marriott.

Pete Accardy, whose men’s and women’s swim teams won 13 NCAA Division II championships in 24 seasons, was inducted along with Gary Torgeson, who led the Northridge softball team to the Division I Women’s College World Series championship game last spring.

Accardy retired in 1993. Torgeson, who compiled a career mark of 636-216-8, retired last spring.

Bob Samuelson, a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic volleyball team, and former All-American swimmer Tracy McClusky-Rose, also were inducted.

The quartet will be honored during halftime of today’s 1:30 p.m. game against Northern Arizona.

Basketball

The Master’s College men’s basketball team will hold its alumni game at 2 p.m. today.

Andy Thompson, the starting point guard on last year’s 28-5 team, and Tom Bruner, a starter at forward from 1988-92, are expected to play.

Golf

Jim Izu of Westlake Village and Paul Meshekow of Tarzana have been reelected to the 16-member board of directors of the SCGA.
