OUTLOOK

Santa Ana Valley could pull off some surprises this year under Stipp, the Falcons’ first-year coach. With a few key victories, the Falcons could find themselves competing in the playoffs. Santa Ana Valley, El Modena and Villa Park should battle for the third and final automatic playoff berth. After a fourth-place finish last season, the Falcons return five lettermen, including three starters. Like most of the league, Santa Ana Valley is going to rely on guards to control the game. “Our weakness is that we need to learn how to win, especially in close, important games, “ Stipp said. Defense is also going to play a big part in the Falcons’ game plan, and Stipp thinks quickness is their main strength. Gibson and Lara are the only two seniors on the team, and their speed and ballhandling at guard will be one of the keys to Santa Ana Valley’s success. Napier should also become a standout in the league this season. Although only a sophomore, at 6 feet 3 she should be able to handle the more-experienced post players around the league.
