A summary of selected City Hall actions last week that affect the Westside.

CITY COUNCIL

WESTWOOD PARKING--Approved the use of $5 million in parking revenue to construct a multistory, city-owned parking lot in Westwood. The structure, to be located on Broxton Avenue, will have 409 parking spaces. It would replace the current city-owned lot, which has 138 spaces. The money for the project comes from parking meter collections in the Westwood area. Construction is to begin next summer and is expected to take one year.

FIRE ENGINE SALE--Approved the sale of a surplus city fire engine to the Croatian National Assn. for $1. The association will send the fire engine to the Croatian city of Dubrovnik, which lost many of its emergency vehicles during the war in the former Yugoslavia.

STREET CLOSURE--Approved the closure of the 5400 block of Virginia Avenue on Nov. 24 from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the 36th annual Thanksgiving celebration sponsored by the United States Mission/Hudson House. An estimated 1,500 homeless people are expected to be served a holiday dinner at the site.
