TRY ABSTINENCE? Anaheim City Council members, disgusted with the series of brawls that took place at Sunday’s Rams-Raiders game at Anaheim Stadium, are considering ways to prevent a repeat of such unruliness. . . . “It was a total disaster,” Councilman Frank Feldhaus says. He suggests cutting off liquor sales after halftime and heavier patrols of the parking lots before the game. But some may agree with City Manager James D. Ruth’s idea: “Probably the best control is if the two teams never played each other again.”

BEYOND FOOTBALL: Local sports agent Leigh Steinberg is co-chairing the effort to keep the Rams in Anaheim. But his community involvement goes deeper than that. Tonight he dons a waiter’s uniform to serve guests--along with fellow waiters like William G. Steiner and Gaddi H. Vasquez of the County Board of Supervisors--at a $150 party at Antonello’s Ristorante in Santa Ana. Reason: Proceeds go to the Orangewood Children’s Foundation.

GO-GOING SOUTH: Belinda Carlisle, who joins the reunited Go-Go’s Sunday at the Coach House (OC Live!), has gone from archetypal California girl to Continental mom. . . . She and her film producer husband fulfilled a longtime dream by moving with their 2 1/2-year-old son to a country home in the south of France after January’s Northridge earthquake. . . . Says Carlisle: “I didn’t want to live in the city anymore. After the initial culture shock, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.”

NEW TIES: Major companies love celebrities hawking their products. MCI Telecommunications wanted someone special to push sales in Vietnamese American communities. Kieu Chinh, who starred in “The Joy Luck Club,” will be named today in Huntington Beach as its spokesperson for that market. . . . Says Chinh: “Twenty years after the Vietnam War is over, now new things happen between the two countries that are not about war, but about people. I’m very proud to see this.”
