OUTLOOK

Size won’t be a Saints’ strength, but Walker is not especially worried because this group is quick and determined, two attributes most coaches appreciate. “I expect intense defense,” Walker said, “and great hustle.” Martinez leads the attack. He developed quickly while starting as a sophomore and improved during the summer. Martinez has a knack for being in the right place and he knows how Walker wants things done. Walker believes Martinez will dramatically increase his scoring (5.9 average). Likewise, Rivero is counted on for points. One of the junior varsity team’s top players, Rivero can handle the ball and create scoring opportunities for others. Anthony Garcia most likely will get the starting job at center. Because of Santa Ana’s lack of interior strength, he’ll have to grab his share of rebounds--and then some. If Martinez, Rivero and Garcia come through, Santa Ana might earn a playoff berth.
