CAMARILLO : Car Covers Offered in Medfly Spraying

Share

Residents living in eastern Camarillo’s Medfly eradication zone can receive a free car cover Saturday to protect their vehicles during next Tuesday’s aerial spraying of the pesticide malathion.

The plastic covers will be distributed from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Constitution Park adjacent to Camarillo City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive.

The covers are designed to protect vehicles from sprayed pesticide, a mixture of malathion and corn syrup. The spray can damage paint if it gets on vehicles and allowed to dry, officials said. The covers are being distributed by members of the Ventura County Fruitfly Action Cooperative Task Force.

Tuesday’s planned spraying by the now familiar trio of helicopters will begin at 10 p.m.--one hour later than the normal takeoff time for the four-hour mission.

Officials of the Cooperative Medfly Project said they pushed back the takeoff time to accommodate late night holiday shoppers.
