Finally, Fresno St. Gets a Win : WAC: Reggie Brown scores four touchdowns to lead Bulldogs over San Diego State, 49-42.

Reggie Brown ran for 161 yards and scored four touchdowns as Fresno State snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday night with a 49-42 victory over San Diego State.

The Bulldogs, 5-7-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the Western Athletic Conference, had not won a game since defeating Wyoming, 38-24, on Oct. 15.

Brown, a junior from Detroit, scored on runs of three, 38 and eight yards and caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Richie Donati.

Brown played two seasons at College of the Desert in Palm Desert before transferring to Fresno State.

San Diego State (4-7, 2-6) trailed, 34-14, after three quarters, but pulled within 34-28 after a one-yard run by Wayne Pittman and a 22-yard pass play from Billy Blanton to Daryl Hawkins.

Brown’s 38-yard touchdown run came with 9:41 to play and gave the Bulldogs a 40-28 lead, and Donati threw a two-point conversion pass to David Dunn.

San Diego State closed to within 42-35 on a 38-yard touchdown pass play from Blanton to Will Blackwell with 7:24 remaining. But Brown iced the game with his eight-yard touchdown run with 2:53 to play.

The Bulldogs took a 27-7 halftime lead on Brown’s first two touchdowns, Jerome Oliver’s six-yard touchdown run and field goals of 36 and 32 yards by Johan Lyssand.

Curtis Shearer scored San Diego State’s lone touchdown of the half on a 40-yard pass play.

Fresno’s Donati, a star at Bishop Diego High in Santa Barbara who played behind Trent Dilfer last season, was 23 of 35 for 338 yards and one touchdown without an interception. He also rushed for one touchdown.

Blanton, a sophomore from Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, was 30 of 39 for 447 yards and one touchdown. He was intercepted twice.

Pittman rushed 30 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns for San Diego State. He also caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Blanton with 1:23 to play.
