GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Philman Paces Edison Past Ocean View

Marie Philman scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds as Edison beat Ocean View, 51-27, in a nonleague game Tuesday at Edison. It was the season opener for both teams.

Edison took control of the game early, outscoring Ocean View, 13-2, in the first quarter. Edison led, 37-13, after three quarters.

In other nonleague games:

Fountain Valley 73, Tustin 34--Jennifer Ludwicki and Nicole Strange each had 21 points for host Fountain Valley (1-0).

Trabuco Hills 66, Western 47--Dyanna Hatch had 20 points and Lashieka Henderson had 17 for host Trabuco Hills (1-0). Nancy Herrera had 14 points for Western (0-1).

Laguna Hills 36, Orange 15--Whitney Houser had 14 points to lead Laguna Hills (0-1), which led, 24-8, at the half.

San Clemente 59, El Toro 49--Emily Ela had 18 points, including four three-pointers, for host San Clemente (1-0). Tia Barbee scored 23 points for El Toro (0-1).

Magnolia 41, Katella 30--Michelle Tuazon had nine points to lead Magnolia (1-0), which led, 20-15, at halftime.

Rosary 66, Valencia 48--Kathleen Celio had 21 points to lead host Rosary in the season opener for both teams. Shelly Gamba had 16 points for Valencia.

Liberty Christian 39, Arcadia Rio Hondo Prep 37--Becky Rendon hit a 10-footer from the corner with 25 seconds remaining to give host Liberty Christian (0-1) the victory. Rendon finished with 15 points and Lynlee Vaccaro had 14. Sarah Zabriske had 14 points for Rio Hondo Prep (0-1).

St. Margaret’s 61, North Hollywood Buckley 36--Jean Freeman scored 26 points and Kelly Dane had 14 to lead visiting St. Margaret’s (1-0), which led, 37-15, at the half.

Pasadena Pacific Christian 43, Southern California Christian 19--Nicole Manzano had 31 points to lead host Pacific Christian (1-0). Camelia Horvath had nine points for Southern California Christian (0-1).

In the L.A. Washington Girls’ basketball tournament:

Los Alamitos 45, Los Angeles Marshall 42--Katie Ensley hit the go-ahead basket with 12 seconds remaining to give Los Alamitos (1-1) the victory. Ensley finished with 14 points and Brooke Donberg added 10.
