You need only glance at a vacant parking lot or a smoothly paved hill to see that skateboarding is the thing with Orange County teen-agers.

But the county has only two public skateboard parks where youths can let loose without disobeying city rules. Both are in Huntington Beach.

One is across from City Hall on Main Street next to Huntington Beach High School. The other is at Golden West Street and Warner Avenue inside Murdy Park.

Randy Huttenberger, a city engineer, said the parks were built to keep youths off the streets and give them a place where they could skate to their hearts’ desire.
