Man Shot and Wounded in Residential Area of Brea; 2 Men Seen Fleeing Scene

A 33-year-old man was shot at least twice and left bleeding on a street, authorities said Sunday.

The man, whom police did not identify, underwent surgery after he was shot on the 1800 block of Moorpark Street about 8:40 p.m. Saturday. Brea police said the man was lying on the pavement in the residential area when units arrived. His parked car was discovered nearby.

“It’s not a high-crime area,” Lt. Douglas Dickerson said. “We usually don’t have problems there.”

Several witnesses told police they saw two men flee, Dickerson said. They were last seen driving away in what appeared to be a maroon-colored large American-made sedan, he said.

A Brea Fire Department helicopter airlifted the man to a local hospital, Dickerson said. Surgeons operated on him Sunday morning, and he remained in intensive care Sunday night.

Police are not releasing the victim’s name or the name of the hospital where he was taken because they fear his attacker or attackers may try to retaliate, Dickerson said.

Brea police investigators are following several leads and hope to talk to the shooting victim to get more details on the attack.

There is no known motive for the shooting, and no weapons were recovered at the scene.
