LAGUNA HILLS : A World of Their Own Is in Store for Children

The City Council has unanimously approved a plan to open a children’s recreation and education center in the empty Laguna Farms market at Moulton Parkway and La Paz Road.

The 12,000-square-foot Planet Kids center will offer computers, a music room, an arcade, a sandbox, arts and crafts, and party rooms for children ages 13 or younger.

“It sounds like an exciting use of that property,” said Councilwoman Melody Carruth. “If Planet Kids can fulfill even half of its promises, I would like to be under 13.”

“Planet Kids fills a need that our community has had,” added Councilman Randal J. Bressette. “There is a demand for activities for our kids to be involved in.”

Planet Kids is a proposal by Lion Country Safari, the Irvine company that runs Camp Frasier, a children’s day camp.

Planet Kids is planned to accommodate up to 250 children at a time. All must be signed in and out by parents, who will be given beepers for notification in case of emergency. A three-hour time limit will ensure that Planet Kids isn’t used as a baby-sitting service.

Planet Kids will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will include a dining area. No admission fee has been determined.

Planet Kids will also offer a big-screen TV for youth athletic teams to show videos of their games during team banquets.
