WALNUT PARK : Police Investigating Killing of 2 Vendors
Two men suspected of fatally shooting a pair of street vendors in Walnut Park on Sunday remained at large as investigators gathered information for composite sketches, authorities said.
The suspects are believed to be 18 to 20 years old, said Sgt. Noel Lanier, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
It is believed they walked up to the vendors, who were selling food from pushcarts near Firestone Boulevard and Hooper Avenue, and demanded cash. The vendors may have responded slowly, leading one suspect to fire his handgun at both of them, Lanier said.
It was unknown whether the suspects escaped with any money.
Authorities identified one vendor as Sylvester Placencia, 55, of Los Angeles. The second vendor, a man believed to be about 50, was not identified pending notification of relatives.
