ANAHEIM : Council Votes to Raise Fees at 2 Golf Courses

Share

The City Council on Tuesday approved a series of fee hikes at the city’s two municipal golf courses to increase profits.

The H.G. (Dad) Miller and Anaheim Hills golf courses will increase rates on Fridays from $11 to $13 for nine holes and from $16 to $22 for 18 holes. Weekend tournament fees will double to $10.

Officials predict that with the increase in weekend tournament fees, some tournaments will move to weekdays, leaving more tee times for the individual golfer on weekends. They hope this strategy increases the number of rounds played overall and brings in an additional $160,000 each year. The courses already contribute about $1.5 million annually to the city’s general fund, officials said.

Councilman Bob Zemel proposed that the city put half of the revenue from the fee increases into a separate fund earmarked for construction of a new clubhouse at the Anaheim Hills golf course.

“I’m concerned about raising the funds and having them disappear into the general fund,” Zemel said.

The council voted 3 to 1 to set aside half the money in a separate fund for possible use for a clubhouse, but with no guarantees it would be used that way.
