Employees from the Santa Ana Unified School District and the Delhi Community Center will provide food and toys for hundreds of needy families and homeless children this Christmas Eve, a district spokesman said.

During the event, which is co-sponsored by Toys for Tots, volunteers are expected to serve about 1,000 meals and give away 800 toys, said John Bennett, assistant superintendent of the elementary division.

The event is free and open to the public.

District officials advertised the event by distributing flyers at local schools, Bennett said. “We sure would welcome anyone in need,” he said.
