The judge in the O.J. Simpson case Thursday paid a visit to the jail housing the accused double-murderer, the judge’s second tour since a deputy allegedly overheard an outburst by Simpson.
Sgt. Larry Lincoln, a sheriff’s spokesman, said Superior Court Judge Lance A. Ito arrived at the Men’s Central Jail with a bailiff about 2 p.m. to “inspect changes to the visiting area.” He left about 45 minutes later, Lincoln said.
On Nov. 29, the judge joined defense attorneys and a prosecutor in a tour of the visiting area used by Simpson.
Ito refused to let prosecutors know the nature of remarks Simpson was said to have blurted out last month in the visiting area.
A deputy testified he overheard the statement.
The visiting area was set up under Ito’s guidance.
Simpson’s trial is recessed for the holidays. Ito and the attorneys in the case are to return Jan. 4 for an all-day in-chambers session.
