Pomona police continued to search late Monday for a teen-age boy wanted for questioning in connection with the death of a 17-year-old girl who was shot while spending Christmas night at a friend’s house.

Pomona Police Lt. Larry Todd identified the victim as Mary Price of Pomona. Todd described the boy being sought by police as a 15- to 17-year-old Pomona resident who was an acquaintance of the victim.

The victim’s 14-year-old friend initially told investigators that they were alone in the home and that she did not know how the shooting occurred. But she later said a young man was visiting at the time of the incident, Pomona Police Lt. Louie Hernandez said.

Hernandez said it is unclear whether the young man was invited to the house. He had fled by the time police arrived, and it had not been determined whether he was responsible for the shooting or was merely a witness, Hernandez said.

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting.

The younger girl, who has not been identified because of her age, called police about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, saying her friend had been shot in the head. Price had been spending the night, and her friend’s parents had left the girls alone while they went to a party, Hernandez said.
