LOS ANGELES : CHP Unveils ‘Fix It’ Tickets for Mechanical Problems
The California Highway Patrol will begin issuing a new type of ticket to drivers stopped for mechanical problems, a Los Angeles spokesman said Tuesday.
“Fix It” tickets will require drivers to correct simple problems, such as a broken taillight or headlight, within 30 days, and to present proof to the CHP area office nearest to where the violation occurred, said Officer Dwight McDonald of the West San Fernando Valley office.
If a driver proves that he or she has fixed the problem, no further action will be taken. But if no proof is shown, a complaint will be forwarded to the courts for misdemeanor prosecution, McDonald said.
The procedure is designed to ease the burden on courts and make it easier for motorists to correct simple mechanical problems.
