THE BOWLS DAILY REPORT : HOLIDAY : Moeller Prefers Bowls to Playoffs
Michigan is playing in its 20th consecutive bowl game, second-longest streak in the nation behind Nebraska’s 26. So, it is not surprising that Wolverine Coach Gary Moeller is opposed to a playoff system.
“I’m not for it because it is not in the best interest of the players,” Moeller said in San Diego. “If everybody wants to make money, then, yeah, but you use the players again.
“It puts too much pressure on the coaches and the university and in turn you pass that pressure right on to the player, so . . . all of a sudden we’re playing football in college strictly for a national championship. It’s not right.”
Will it happen?
“Sadly, probably, but hopefully if the Presidents (Commission) stays as strong as they say they want to stay, then, no, we won’t get there,” Moeller said. “But they’ll probably give in to the money.”
