Pomona Card Club Talks Put on Hold

Share

The city of Pomona has been temporarily barred from entering into agreements with card club developers while Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Diane Wayne decides whether to make her ruling permanent.

On Dec. 12, Wayne issued a temporary restraining order that blocked the city from signing card club licenses. Six days later, the council approved a license agreement with Champs, one of the casino developers, but was unable to finalize the agreement because of the ban.

On Tuesday, Wayne issued an injunction that appears to block the city from taking any further action on the card clubs, said Pomona City Atty. Arnold M. Alvarez-Glasman. As a result, the agreement with Champs, as well as a council decision on the proposed Tradewinds casino, are on hold until Jan. 20, when Wayne is scheduled to make a final decision.
