THE BOWLS DAILY REPORT : COPPER / OKLAHOMA vs. BRIGHAM YOUNG, Tonight : New/Old Quarterbacks in the Spotlight
- Share via
The game at Tucson between No. 22 Brigham Young (9-3) and Oklahoma (6-5) is about an arrival, a departure and a possible departure.
The new face on the scene is Oklahoma quarterback Terence Brown, a sophomore who hasn’t taken a snap in a game since Oct. 22. He gets the start because Garrick McGee is too weak to play after a bout with meningitis.
The game will be the last for Oklahoma Coach Gary Gibbs. Gibbs, 44-22-2 in six seasons, announced his resignation Nov. 21 and is now a lame duck--his successor, Howard Schnellenberger, was named the new coach Dec. 16.
The Copper Bowl might be the last game for BYU quarterback John Walsh, who reportedly will head for the NFL.
