Pepperdine Beats Eastern Kentucky
Joey Ramirez made two free throws with 11.1 seconds left to secure Pepperdine’s 61-55 victory over Eastern Kentucky on Thursday night in the consolation game of the Hoosier Classic.
After Ramirez made both shots, teammate Monte Marcaccini made one of two free throws with 3.8 seconds left for the final score.
Marcaccini scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds as the Waves improved to 3-8. Gerald Brown scored 11 points and Ramirez scored eight and had six assists.
Curtis Fincher led the Colonels (2-7) with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Marty Thomas scored 12 points.
Eastern Kentucky led, 31-26, early in the second half before Pepperdine went on a 12-0 run and never trailed again.
The Colonels were held to 38.6% shooting. Pepperdine shot 44.7%.
There was a rare technical foul called against the Waves because of their failure to report their starting lineup in time.
